Chatan Bereshit – Marcus Smullen

I was born in Glasgow in the late 1970s and grew up there, going to the Jewish scout troop and then the Maccabi youth club. I didn’t go to the Jewish primary school because it wasn’t within walking distance from the house. I also think there was an issue, as my mother converted before I was born. I have moved house about 10 times, until settling where I am now in Borehamwood.

I come from a large family who are spread out around the world—in America, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada—and I still have family back in Glasgow.

I am now divorced and have not seen my two daughters for the past few years.

Most of my professional life has been in Facilities Management, and I am now enjoying creating different artworks,…
