NEW RABBI FOR SHEMA

Rabbi Zachary Bernstein-Rothberg graduated from Rabbinical school in 2026.  He studied political science and religious studies at university and has a Masters degree in Bible, He has interned in four congregations in the United States. His work includes a paper on mental health and the Binding of Isaac ("The Traumatized Patriarch") and his thesis is on Biblical law around women and vows.

Rabbi  Bernstein-Rothberg has taught a variety of courses including an introduction to Tanach at SHEMA, a series on Mental Health in the Hebrew Bible, and Satan in Jewish text, as well as a Masterclass on Torah reading.

Outside of his work, Zachary is a die-hard baseball fan (New York Mets), an avid reader (particularly around American history and politics), and operates a non-partisan election forecasting and modelling website ("The Bernstein Model").

His husband Zachary Carruthers-Rothberg is completing his Rabbinic studies in London in 2026-27
